What is DMOZ?

DMOZ or the Open Directory Project is  a web directory in which webmasters all want to get their site listed in as a link from DMOZ is supposed to help a website rank well in the search engines. However, webmasters make all sorts of allegations in SEO forums about how hard it is to get into unless you pay, yet never produce any evidence to the paid corruption. They often talk about webmasters who are editors and keep competitors sites out of DMOZ, yet never produce any evidence to confirm it. They also noted some allegations from it.
